Superior Anodizing Process
Anodizing is the highly controlled oxidation of aluminum which gives aluminum parts a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant finish.
Parts are immersed in an acid electrolyte bath and electrical current is passed through the electrolyte to the part, forming an aluminum oxide film on the surface of the part. By modifying the process parameters, primarily temperature and current density you are able to achieve drastically different coatings.
Decorative Anodize
More commonly called clear anodize is a relatively thin anodic film which provides good corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, and maintains the silver color of the underlying material. This coating can be dyed any color imaginable (assuming a dye is available).

Hard Coat Anodize
Hard coat anodize is a thick dense coating that provides excellent corrosion and wear resistance. Standard coating thickness is 0.002” +/-0.0002” on 5000, 6000, 7000 series aluminum alloys. 2000 series alloys are more difficult to process due to the high Copper content of the alloy and will result in coating thicknesses in the .001 / .0015” thickness range. Hard coat anodize is file hard 50-55Rc. This coating can be dyed but due to the natural dark color of the coating it is recommended to only dye the parts black.
